It’s rare to be nominated twice for the Athletic Department Sportsperson of the month. It’s even rarer to be nominated and not have competed in an event.
But that’s precisely what our February AD MOTM has done many times.
Everyone knows that all superheroes perform well because of their sidekicks. Those who do the heavy lifting without being spotted, the ones who constantly show up but never want the limelight, go about their daily business and get things done.
Last year, we wrote about Jonathan Papalia’s willingness to help people achieve their goals.
Be it paddling alongside a visually impaired swimmer and using a whistle to tell them to swim right or left or paddling alongside fellow Tattersalls Members completing the Bondi to Watsons Bay swim, Jonathon’s dedication to helping people achieve their goals is unmatched. Jonathon gets no credit for his selfless feats (besides being the Tattersalls AD Member of the Month!)
We aren’t diminishing Jonathan’s ability to complete outrageous tasks either. Johnathan has completed the Coast-to-Coast Trek in New Zealand, seven Ironmans, and countless long-distance rides, all in the name of charity rather than personal glory.
It’s easy to see why so many people turn to Jonathon when they need help; he is the ultimate wingman.
