For the July whisky of the month, Tattersalls is bottling up the 2007 North British 12 Year Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky from Signatory Vintage.
Established in 1885, The North British Distillery was founded by four men with a background in independent blending who came together simply to expand their own distilling interests at the time. One hundred and thirty-six years later, the Edinburgh distillery has become one of Scotland’s oldest & largest grain whisky producers.
At 43% ABV and presented in the Signatory Vintage bottle, this is a bold single grain Scotch Whisky to kick off our 2022-23 Whisky Club year. Tasting notes are:
Colour: So bright and gold, to the point you can almost taste the malt.
Nose: Imagine cooked malted barley, with oak and hints of vanilla.
Palate: Citrus, earthy and rich with oatcakes and cream cheese.
Water: Becomes fresh, fruity and sweet.
Finish: Sweet with mint and barley sugars, overall a creamy whisky.
Interestingly, North British never bottle whisky under their own label, instead seeking independent bottlers, in this case Signatory Vintage. Founded in 1988 by brothers Andrew and Brian Symington, the name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask.
