Hot off the heels of the recent sell-out India commerce lunch, BOF this week was an all-time record turnout for breakfast.
The topic? The controversial darling of the ASX: fintech.
As usual, the group met at 07:30 to catch up with each other and order breakfast. This week each Member introduced their business with a short 1-2 word description of a key trend or issue in their market.
That snapshot was interesting enough – with so many savvy Tattersalls Club Members from a smorgasbord of sectors, the list of smoking hot subjects showed the kind of access we are able to tap into at BOF.
But the main course this week was next: a detailed presentation by expert Andrew Beaumont on fintech platforms.
Andrew led the group through some carefully selected charts and quotes to illustrate the sudden progress of the sector and its tailwinds and headwinds.
Some of the topics discussed included:
When is credit not credit?
Who on earth uses it?
Why the Australian Government is giving it an easy run
How the ASIC Sandbox works
Why credit cards have stopped growing
Why PayPal being first to take on Afterpay is not the thing to watch for next
As usual, the meeting ended at 09:00 on the dot to allow people to get to work and their next appointments.
Many thanks to everyone who turned up for the session and of course especially to Andrew Beaumont for the brilliant presentation and his detailed preparation.
Next up on Tuesday 4th May – Small Business Restructures Post Covid featuring Mark Roufeil.
Member Mark Roufeil had one of the most packed out talks of 2020. This is the inevitable follow up – part II – as the pandemic impact unwinds and new legislation comes into play. This is going to be essential for anyone who wants to understand how the next 18 months will unfold for small businesses in Australia.
Business Owners Forum (BOF) is a network of Tattersalls Club Members interested in sharing information and insight about the commercial environment. The discussions run using the Chatham House rule to allow Members to freely explore the most important issues facing business right now. BOF is open to Members who are business owners, investors or just interested in business.
The numbers are growing now, so please circle the date in your diary today and RSVP to Sara at sarapeelgrane@tattersallsclub.org or on 9263 9202.
