The rivalry between Oxford and Cambridge has a long history, dating back to around 1209, when Cambridge was founded by scholars taking refuge from hostile Oxford townsmen.

The most well known rivalry is the famed boat race, a 6 km paddle to town on the river Thames.

The very first Boat Race was won by Oxford, but Cambridge leads the overall series with 86 wins to Oxford’s 81,[3] with one dead heat in 1877 (as of 2023)

We are now giving Members the opportunity to decide which school wins the next race by having this as our workout of the month.

Members will choose to either Row for 4 minutes (representing Oxford) or Ski Erg for 4 minutes (representing Cambridge). Once completed they will add their score to the running tally located on the mirrors in the Athletic Department.

As Oxford won the first race they will be the rower, meaning Cambridge will be represented by the Ski Erg.

The University with the most metres at the end of the month will be declared the winner, and the Wikipedia page changed to reflect accordingly.

You can participate as many times as you would like in this challenge noting that is it one of the bingo squares to tick off for wellness Bingo!

Happy competition time!
