There’s been a bit of crisp in the air lately, the first leaf has fallen, the humidity has dropped and many of us are already making plans for Easter. It feels time for some serious red wine – tempranillo.
Tempranillo is the perfect autumnal red. An amazing grape, it can produce youthful, juicy, plummy wines but is also capable of ageing in oak for many years. Oak adds vanilla, cinnamon and sandalwood notes, but with Singlefile the length of time in oak has dropped, allowing more fruit to shine through.
Tattersalls is currently listing the 2021 Singlefile Tempranillo from Great Southern in Western Australia. This medium-bodied red displays intense rich dark berries, earthy spices and gentle oak support. Fifty percent of the wine was matured in single-use Bordeaux oak to give it that chewy dry mouth feel, suitable to accompany some richer foods such as red meat and pasta dishes.
