Our October Athletic Department Member of the Month is a man who hates the limelight but has done so brilliantly in his events that we have to nominate him for the AD Member of the Month.
Keiran Horth has recently returned from his first team relay Triathlon with a bronze medal around his neck and a newfound vigour for more.
Participating in his first-ever team Triathlon event Keiran’s situation was a unique one, most teams have 3 participants for the event, with each person taking on a certain discipline.
Keiran’s team was only made up of 2 members meaning Kieran had to undertake the swim and the bike leg before tagging in his partner.
Keiran started the swim at blistering speed, emerging from the water in a tad over 20 minutes and 21st position.
From here Keiran faced the uphill battle of sand running, something that wasn’t prescribed on the course map or in the training plan, not being Keiran’s strongest event the team slid back to 45th position.
Armed with months of training in his legs and a newfound level of “it’s now a competition not just for fun” Keiran excelled on the bike averaging close to 38kmph for the course moving his team from 45th up to 7th place ensuring the team was in a medal-winning position.
From here Keiran’s partner covered the 10km run in 40 minutes meaning the boys crossed the line in 3rd position and secured a bronze medal for the first time in their first-ever event.
This is a huge achievement for Keiran considering he has only recently changed his training plans and styles to encompass the world of Triathlons.
Well done Keiran on your amazing achievement and dedication to all things to make this happen.
