Well sports fans, now the Olympics, AFL and NRL footy finals are over, the lonely world turns its eye to ………City Houses Squash finals and the wonderfully named Golden Balls Cup!!
Firstly, to the semi-final prospects of both our teams in City Houses Squash! Like finely tuned Melbourne Cup runners at the 2500m mark both Tattersalls teams are placed for inside runs to victory. Tattersalls Thursday ably led by Oscar “A Grade Austin” are sitting just behind the lead pack with only three matches to go. In a world-wide exclusive: A Grade told this masthead: “Certainly it is a comp of two halves….and each match is a match of five games, but I am sure the work that we put into the offseason will contribute to a campaign that will bring Tatts Squash the glory that it so richly deserves…..”
Tattersalls Wednesday is in a similar position (if you widen the concept of “pack”), this group of elite athletes are looking to put a run into the finals also. After commanding victories over the CBA and Sydney Uni sides. Raptor Robinson, who arrived back from Uzebekistan on the Wednesday morning of the match (just like one of those really cool PSA professional dudes) and won a commanding 4 game rubber (just like one of those really cool professional PSA players) stated: “I disagree with A Grade Austen- it has been more like a competition of three thirds, with each rubber consisting of a best of five game test, but with the work that the boys put in the offseason, including Andrew’s Yoga sessions on Sunday, I am sure that we will bring home the falafel”. The team, in Raptor’s – long awaited – absence – has been ably led by Brian “the Ghost” Graham and Ollie “Titan” Tablow.
Finally, the news we have all been waiting for!!! The Golden Balls Cup!!! That delightfully named private Club competition played between Tattersalls Club, Killara Golf Club, Royal Sydney Golf Club and the University and Schools Club. In an event that went right down the wire we must congratulate University and Schools as victorious, with a thrilling final round win over Killara Golf Club.
The final standings:
University & Schools: 9 points
Tattersalls: 8.5 points
Killara: 5.5 points
Royal Sydney: 3 points.
So close, yet so far ……next year awaits…………………
Stay tuned for the next update at the same bat-time in the same bat place – with news of the Tattersalls Club Round Robin conclusion and also Michell Martin Cup!
