18:00 Wednesday 27 April
The Club has a rich history of contributions to many nation building efforts, not least those involving war. This whisky tasting will in particular honour the three sons of Tattersalls’ Club Member Mr Henry Stevenson, Joseph, Frank and Charles.
The following story was written by Member Mal Booth who is responsible for digitising the Club’s archives. Click here for the story.
The evening will start with a beer from the ‘The Veteran Brewing Co’. Their mission is focused on veterans. Their goal is to fund projects that will help tackle challenges for those who struggle after serving.
We will then dive into the tasting of four whiskies. Two Australian, one New Zealand and one French distillery brought together by history. Club favourite Matt Wooller will take us through an expert tasting.
During the evening, we will hear from Matthew French. Matthew enlisted into the Australian army in 2010 as a rifleman/paratrooper. In 2012, he was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Mentoring Taskforce 5. It was his job to provide mentoring, training and close-combat support on the battlefield to the Afghan National Army. His overall mission was to teach the Afghans skills he learned as a combat soldier. This included care for battlefield casualties, combat operations, maintenance of weapon systems and health and wellbeing.
Matthew discharged from the military in 2015 and focussed on mentoring and developed Veteran Mentors – a youth foundation program where skills learnt in the military teach children to help them to be able to adapt to stressful situations, build resilience and overcome adversity.
Each of the four selected whiskies has been carefully matched with delicious canapes based on the flavour profile.
